The Academy Award-winning Norelco DP-70 was particularly famous for its versatility, operating as a dual-purpose 35mm and 70mm film projector. The projector head contains the physical mechanism, gears, film gates, and shutters needed to pull film from the reels and past the lens at a steady frame rate.
The Kni-tron Xenon Lamphouse: Manufactured by the Kneisley Electric Company based in Toledo, Ohio, the Kni-tron lamphouse acts as the primary light source. Sitting directly behind the projector head, it houses a high-intensity Xenon short-arc lamp and a curved reflector mirror. This creates the intense, daylight-balanced cone of light required to project images across a massive theater auditorium.
The Kni-tron Rectifier: High-power Xenon theater lamps cannot run directly off standard AC grid electricity; they require incredibly stable, low-voltage, high-amperage Direct Current (DC) power. The Kni-tron rectifier converts standard alternating current (AC) power from the building into the highly specialized DC current needed to strike and sustain the electrical arc inside the Xenon bulb.
